US-based Sandridge RMH Acquisition has issued a recall of nearly 1,222 pounds of ready-to-eat beef products owing to misbranding and undeclared allergens.
According to the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), the beef products were wrongly labeled as beef pot roast.
The package which has been mislabeled, actually comprises beef meatloaf made up of ingredients like wheat and soybean oil, stated the food regulator. Both the ingredients are known allergens which were not declared by Sandridge RMH Acquisition on the product label.
FSIS revealed that the mislabeling issue was discovered earlier this week after a consumer reported of purchasing a product described as beef pot roast but turning out to be beef meatloaf when the package was opened.
FSIS has notified that the homestyle beef pot roast products were produced and packaged by Sandridge RMH on 6 September this year.
The ready-to-eat beef products recalled by the company established in Morton are 15oz. plastic trays labeled as “Publix homestyle beef pot roast WITH SEASONED GRAVY”. They have a use or freeze by date of 4 December 2017 and have an establishment number “EST. 17789B”.
The beef products subject to recall were dispatched to retail locations across Florida and Georgia.
So far there haven’t been any confirmed reports of any adverse reactions caused by the consumption of the recalled beef products from Sandridge RMH.
FSIS, which has classified the recall as Class II with a low health risk, stated: “Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
“FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify their customers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers.”
