A few days ago, United Nations Global Compact Organization sent a congratulatory message, congratulating Baosteel Co., Ltd was selected in the United Nations Global Compact 100 stock index ( hereinafter referred as GC100 index). This suggested that on a globalization platform, the sustainable development capability of Baosteel gained wide recognition.
GC100 index is a brand-new global stock index which synthesizes the sustainable development of enterprises and financial performance. In September of this year, United Nations Global Compact Organization introduced this index and the selected enterprises were committed to adhering to the ten principles of global compact. Over the past 12 months, the total return on investment reached 26.4%, which was superior to that of the general global stock market.
GC100 index is jointly developed and released by United Nations Global Compact Organization and its cooperative research institution called Sustainalytics, selecting a set of representative enterprises which are the members of the Global Compact. Those enterprises are selected based on its compliance with ten principles of global compact, including human rights, labour standards, environment management and so on, meanwhile, it takes account of the commitment of leadership and the sustained profitability making abilities. Eventually, 100 enterprises are selected in GC100 index from 713 enterprises.
