US-based food company HJ Heinz is evaluating plans to cut about 250 jobs in the UK and Ireland, as part of an effort to restructure its business.

This move comes after comes after the sale of the company to an investment consortium comprised of Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway and private equity firm 3G Capital, in a deal worth $28bn in June.

Earlier this month, Heinz eliminated 600 jobs in the US and Canada following a review of the company's operations.

Commenting on the latest job cuts, Heinz noted that it has developed a 'streamlined structure' which will simplify, strengthen and leverage its global presence.

If the job cuts are finalized, the company plans to offer severance benefits and outplacement services to help affected employees pursue new career opportunities.

Heinz noted that the proposal is subject to a consultation process with employees and their representatives.

Currently, Heinz has a workforce of 2,500 across its facilities at Hayes, Wigan, Kendal, Telford, Westwick in Norfolk, Worcester in the UK and Dundalk in Ireland.
