The Sharjah and Ajman municipalities in the UAE have deepened investigations into dairy products sold across food outlets in the regions over a bacteria contamination.
This follows Ministry of Economy's decision to recall Perail, a type of cheese manufactured from unprocessed milk, that was being sold at Carrefour hypermarket, Khaleej Times reported.
The recall has been initiated after it was found that 135g packets of Perail sold at Careffour were contaminated with a high level of harmful bacteria, which could be Listeria.
Ajman Municipality director general Yahya Al Reyaysa said: "After the Ministry of Economy recalled Perail cheese, the municipality has taken samples of cheese from different outlets to ensure they are safe. We have also ensured that Perail is not sold at Carrefour and other outlets"
Ministry of Economy will shut down those outlets selling harmful products even after the recall is issued.
Both the municipalities have urged people who have bought the recalled product to either destroy or return it to Carrefour.
