Hitachi's wholly owned subsidiary Hitachi Automotive Systems has agreed to deliver 5,000W/kg high output power density prismatic lithium-ion battery cells for installation on the hybrid version of the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu.
General Motors (GM) plans to commence the sale of the new Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid cars in 2016.
The prismatic lithium-ion battery cells feature heat resistant separators to ensure the ionic conductivity, thus allowing it to achieving high output power density of 5,000W/kg with high safety level.
The selection follows GM's testing during which, the battery maintained high output power density even when subjected to extremely low temperatures such as -30 degrees celsius cold.
Malibu Hybrid is powered by a 1.8L 4-cylinder engine along with two-motor drive unit, capable of producing a total system power of 182 hp.
Additional features of the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu include power electronics including blended regenerative braking system.
Hitachi Automotive Systems develops, manufactures, sells and provides services of automotive components, transportation related components, industrial machines and systems.
The company also provides a wide range of automotive systems including engine management systems, electric power train systems, drive control systems and car information systems.
