Canadian Agricultural cooperative Agropur is voluntarily recalling Gorgonzola Dolce Cheese due to possible contamination by Listeria monocytogenes, according to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).
The product subject to the recall is 150g Il Villaggio brand Gorgonzola Dolce Cheese bearing UPC code 67400 01454 9 with Best Before date 13 October 2015.
This recalled product has been distributed across Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec and possibly across the nation.
CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall, which is classified as Class 1 health hazard. No illnesses have been reported associated with the recall.
Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
