General Motors to Start Layoff in January and to Lay off Around 510 Workers in Michigan

General Motors is planning to lay off around 510 workers from two of its Michigan assembly plants in the US.

It includes around 160 workers from its Orion Facility while 350 people will be laid off from its Lansing plant where Cadillac ATS and CTS luxury sedans are manufactured.

According to reports, the company is planning to move some of the laid off employees to company's other plants nearby.

The layoffs at Orion facility is a result of fall in gasoline price which has negatively affected the demand for ultra efficient automobiles like Buick Verano and Chevrolet Sonic that are made in the Orion facility .

The layoffs will start in January which is ahead of Detroit's upcoming contract talks with the United Auto Workers union, Wall Street Jounal reports.
