Nike Football and Argentina’s Boca Juniors joined forces on Jan. 11 to launch a limited-edition jersey that the team will wear at the football tournament this summer. The bright purple hue is generating buzz with its sharp departure from the team’s traditional blue and gold tones.
Art and sport unite
World renowned Argentinean artist Carlos Regazzoni drew inspiration from the new jersey to create a unique, 40-by-10-foot art installation in Buenos Aires that celebrates the passion and spirit of the Boca Juniors. The piece is made with 306 boxes containing the first jerseys, and it features an image of the iconic stadium La Bombonera.
"My goal was to reflect something iconic, an aerial view of La Bombonera stadium with its people," Regazzoni said. "I wanted to express the pride of the fans."
Environmentally friendly jersey
The Bocas’ jersey is made with 100 percent recycled polyester derived from plastic bottles and was manufactured in Argentina. Its design features the same technology innovations applied to the jersey models the team usually wears. Nike Dri-FIT technology and laser cuts on the side panels keep players dry and comfortable during the match. Slim fit technology ensures a tighter fit.
