Syngenta Completes Expansion Projects in Brazil and Switzerland

Global agriculture company Syngenta has completed expansion of its key projects in Brazil and Switzerland to increase its production capacity.

It had invested a total of $240m in two Brazilian plants. One of them is the new Elatus fungicide plant in Paulínia, Sao Paulo province while the other plant is a corn seed factory in Formosa, Goaias province which was expanded.

In Switzerland, the crop chemical producer expanded the manufacturing facility of its Kaisten located S-Metolachlor herbicide processing plant.

Syngenta global operations head Mark Peacock said: “With these investments in production capacity expansion, we confirm our long-term commitment to agricultural development and to bringing winning innovation into the hands of growers.”

According to Syngenta, the Elatus plant uses the Pepite technology to produce water-soluble granules which are used to make fungicides. The company had reported that Elatus fungicides gave it revenue of more than $400m in 2015.

In August end, the company received approval from France for Elatus fungicide which is trademarked as Solatenel. This paved way for Syngenta to begin sales of Solatenol in France although it will initially be sold under the Elatus Plus brand.

At its other plant in Brazil, in Formosa, production capacity of the corn seed plant has been quadrupled through new installations. The production capacity has been increased from 400,000 to 1.6 million bags of corn per year.

Likewise, in Switzerland, Syngenta has increased production capacity of its S-Metolachlor herbicide plant.

The agribusiness has over 28,000 people working for it across 90 countries delivering its innovative crop solutions.

In July, Syngenta reported sales revenue of $7.1bn in its 2016 half yearly results.
