GCMMF Is Set to Invest in Two Other Indian States Such as West Bengal and Punjab

India’s Amul dairy brand maker Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) is set to invest in two other Indian states such as West Bengal and Punjab.

GCMMF is expected to invest INR200 crore to set up a unit in West Bengal, while the Punjab unit will have a capacity to process 200,000 litres per day, two national dailies reported.

According to West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation managing director Krishna Gupta, GCMMF is taking up 16 acres of land at the Sankrail Food Park in Howrah district in the state for the project, Business Line reported.

"Amul project would be the anchor investment in the 34 acre phase three of the food park," he added.

Amul's entry into Punjab, a state with one of the highest per capita milk consumption in the country, will benefit farmers as it would set a benchmark for procurement prices, GCMMF managing director R S Sodhi told Business Standard.

The per capita milk consumption of Punjab is around 900mg per person per day as against the national average of 300mg.
