US-based food company General Mills is launching a new breakfast cereal in collaboration with Warner Bros. inspired by comic superheroes Batman and Superman.
The new breakfast cereals, Batman Chocolate Strawberry and Superman Caramel Crunch, are themed to launch alongside "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice" movie in theaters. As part of the promotion campaign, General Mills has urged fans to post on social media using hashtags #batmancereal or #supermancereal, in order to declare which character they like. Fans can also choose to stay neutral by using #superheroescereal, reported comicbook.com.
General Mills will introduce the new cereals to fans at New Orleans Wizard World Comic Con on 8 January, where fans would be able to declare their allegiance to either of the superheroes.
While the crunchy pieces are designed in the shape of Superman's shield, the chocolate strawberry pieces come in Batman's emblem shape, reports TIME.
General Mills senior marketing manager Alan Cunningham was quoted by TIME as saying: "Superman and Batman continue to appeal to the generations of fans that have enjoyed them for decades, as well as new superhero fans experiencing them for the first time.
"We spent extensive time and effort to develop the flavors and look of these cereals, and their packaging, so that they will match the incredible quality of the characters they feature."
General Mills is also actively undertaking social responsibility. Recently, the company made commitment to reduce sodium by 20% in its US products which include cereals, dry dinners, frozen pizza, Mexican dinners, refrigerated dough products, savory snacks, canned vegetables, side dishes, soups, and variety baking mixes.
