The Carola brand of spring water, sold in eastern France, has reportedly adopted new scribing lasers aimed at better flexibility, besides reducing the environmental impact.
Nestlé Group's subsidiary Carola introduced the red, green and blue color coding on their bottles to differentiate between the lightly sparkling and sparkling varieties.
The firm chose the Domino D320i compact scribing laser to code into its glass bottles, wherein the label is affixed to the bottles once they emerge from the bottling system, after which the best-before date and time of bottling are laser-scribed.
According to the firm, it produces about 60m bottles of 1l and 500ml capacity annually.
Carola operations manager Jose Lefort claimed the Ribeauville facility was recognized for keeping a tab on the environmental impact, and that the consumers are satisfied with the readability of the codes.
The brand of water, which was introduced in the 19th century from the Ribeauville region, is piped into buffer storage tanks, from where it is packaged into glass bottles.
