Software platforms provider QNX Software Systems, a subsidiary of BlackBerry has launched a new operating system (OS), the QNX OS for Automotive Safety 1.0.
The new OS, which is built on the QNX technology, is said to address growing demand for digital instrument clusters, heads-up displays, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), and other in-car applications with functional safety requirements.
QNX OS for Automotive Safety 1.0 is claimed to be certified for use in ISO 26262 compliant systems with Automotive Safety Integrity Level D.
QNX Software Systems product management director Grant Courville said safety-critical systems have been the company's bread and butter for almost 30 years.
"That experience, combined with our proven competency in safety certifications and software deployed in tens of millions of vehicles, makes QNX the ideal OS supplier for automotive companies building systems with ISO 26262 ASIL requirements," Courville added.
According to the company, the QNX OS for Automotive Safety would reduce the development and certification costs of systems by allowing safety-critical functions to run on the same hardware module as non-safety critical functions.
The OS comes with isolation and memory protection process to see that safety-critical components avoid interference from other components.
