Austrian manufacturer of plastic products Borealis and UAE-based Borouge have jointly launched a new grade of BorPure high density polyethylene (HDPE) family for caps and closures.
Made with Borealis' Borstar polyethylene (PE) technology, the new BorPure MB5568 has been designed to support lightweighting trend and standard short-neck closures for carbonated soft drinks, juices, teas and bottled water.
The Borstar technology is said to allow the tailoring of PE mechanical and processing properties to match specific application needs without performance compromises, using less material.
BorPure MB5568 grade features stiffness and environmental stress crack resistance that enables additional cap and closure downgauging with consequent material and production cost savings.
This reduces carbon footprint and supports sustainability.
Borealis Advanced Packaging and Fibre marketing manager Russell Tew said the new grade has been designed to reduce volume of material used in caps and also to reduce cost in bottle production in beverage sector.
"BorPure MB5568 has been developed jointly by Borealis and Borouge to positively aid that objective by allowing converters and brand owners globally to further reduce the amount of plastic, which is contributing further to the cost-reduction initiatives taking place in the beverage industry," Tew added.
Like all BorPure grades, the new grade offers better organoleptic properties and has no taste or odour influence on bottle contents.
The grade had been already launched by Borealis in Europe in early 2014 and in April 2014, it will be officially launched in Asia by Borouge during Chinaplas event.
