Producers Have Been Urged to Meet Glass Packaging Recycling Obligations for 2012

UK-based Defra (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) has said that it expects manufacturers and compliance schemes to meet their glass packaging recycling obligations for 2012 and has warned of enforcement action on those who fail to comply.

The department said that it has been keeping a check on the progress towards the targets after the third quarter of 2012 figures suggested that not sufficient glass packaging waste recovery notes (PRNs) were being issued.

Defra's letter states that it continues to expect producers and compliance schemes to comply with their packaging recycling and recovery obligations.

There has been a great increase in the number of PRNs issued after the Q3 2012, but the final picture would be clearer once the report is submitted to the National Packaging Waste Database by the end of January 2013, the department said.
