American automaker Chrysler Group has issued a voluntary recall on 644,354 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango vehicles in the US, due to a problem with service brakes.
These vehicles are of certain model year 2011-2014 and were manufactured from 5 January 2010, through 8 September 2013.
A brake booster with a center shell in the affected vehicles may corrode and allow water to get inside.
This will limit the braking ability of the vehicle as the water inside could freeze. The condition will increase the risk of a crash.
Dealers of the automotive firm will test the booster to confirm it can hold an acceptable amount of vacuum pressure and will add a water diverter shield to the booster.
They will also replace the booster, if the test confirms an unacceptable loss of vacuum pressure.
The recall is expected to begin in May 2014 and Chrysler will notify the owners of recall affected vehicles.
