Cargill Is Planning to Relocate Its Meat Slicing and Packaging Operations

Agribusiness company Cargill is planning to relocate its meat slicing and packaging operations from its plant in Springfield, Missouri, to its facilities at Nebraska City, Nebraska, and Waco, Texas.

The move comes after a thorough assessment of Cargill's turkey and cooked meats future business needs.

The Springfield facility will close on 11 March 2015, a move that will effect 118 employees working at the plant.

The employees effected by the closure will be offered to relocate to other Cargill facilities in the region.

Commenting on the relocation, Cargill Turkey & Cooked Meats president Ruth Kimmelshue said: "Given the scale of our facilities where this work is going, the proximity to raw materials, and technology driven efficiencies that can be gained, in addition to the shipping logistics benefits for our customers, we believe this move better positions us for future growth in a highly competitive environment."

The Springfield facility was acquired by Cargill from Willow Brook Foods in 2008.
