Canadian food establishment Premium Brands is planning to cease operations at its processed meats plant in Toronto, Ontario in December 2015, a move that may impact 200 jobs.
The closure comes as the company thought that the plant's age and location in a predominantly residential area were not economically feasible.
Premium Brands' Toronto facility currently produces branded and private label processed meats for a variety of retail and foodservice customers.
The company plans to gradually transfer some of plant's operations to other production facilities in Ontario starting in the spring.
Premium Brands Retail Group COO John Beliveau said: "The shutdown of the Toronto plant and the corresponding transfer of production to our three other state-of-the-art or recently renovated deli meat production facilities in Ontario, combined with the investments we are making in expanding the capacity of these facilities, is expected to result in an increase in our pre-tax earnings of approximately $2.4 million."
