AMD's latest embedded G-Series processor is an x86 based device with a graphics accelerator and with power consumption of 2.3W on average or 4.5 watts thermal design power (TDP).
AMD also said it is extending the planned availability for the entire G-Series processor family through 2017.Designated the AMD G-T16R, the chip is being offered as an upgrade for the AMD Geode LX processor family, which consumes about 7% less power and three times the performance of the 2.45W AMD Geode LX processor.
The new processor also supports the latest DDR3 memory. The firm's G-Series processors are typically used in embedded boards such as the small Qseven computer-on-modules and MiniITX form factor.
"This new accelerated processing unit helps to enable small form factor and fan-less designs with power consumption of just 2.3 watts on average," said Arun Iyengar, general manager, AMD Embedded Solutions.
The AMD Embedded G-T16R APU supports Windows Embedded Compact 7, Green Hills INTEGRITY and Express Logic ThreadX operating systems.
