The Government's Program Has Achieved The First Result

Taipei,Dec.7,2012(CENS)--The government's program of"pushing Taiwanese enterprises to return Taiwan for investments"has achieved the first result,as the Industrial Development Bureau(IDB),under the Ministry of Economic Affairs(MOEA),approved yesterday(Dec.6)the investment projects of Largan Precision and Catcher Technology in Taiwan, which will create 3,800 job vacancies in three years.

An IDB official stressed that the IDB will complete the screening of similar investment projects within one week in the future to accelerate the return of Taiwanese enterprises.

The Taiwan investment program, formulated by the Council for Economic Planning and Development(CEPD),was put into practice last month and Largan and Catcher are the first applicants, planning to invest over NT$3 billion in Taiwan in combination. The two companies will be able to enjoy various incentives,in the fields of tariff and foreign laborers, offered by the program.

Largan is the world's largest mobile-phone lens manufacturer, boasting the highest share price on the local stock market. It plans to build more than two factories in the premises of its headquarters in Taichung within the next three years, thereby creating 2,000 job vacancies for local laborers. In addition,it can employ foreign laborers amounting up to 40%of the workforce for the new factories.Consequently, scale of new factories will be larger than the company's existing factories in Taiwan, which hire 2,000 workers.

Catcher,a metal-case manufacturer, has selected a plot of land in Southern Taiwan Science Park for the construction of new factory.

In order to qualify for the incentives of the investment program,Taiwanese investors must meet one of several conditions, including ownership of own brand for international marketing, critical status in international supply chain, production of high value-added products or key components and parts, and setup of R&D center or operational headquarter in Taiwan. In addition, the scale of investment must exceed NT$500 million for hi-tech industries and NT$100 million for other industries.
