Scheduled to go on sale in June 2013, the minincars will be named as Nissan DAYZ, DAYZ Highway STAR, Mitsubishi eK Wagon and eK Custom.

The vehicles have been developed by the NMKV by combining the strengths of Nissan and Mitsubishi Motors in functional areas including product planning, development, design and purchasing.

Development of the minicars for the Japanese market is part of an agreement to expand the scope of cooperation between Nissan and Mitsubishi Motors that was signed in December 2010.

Both the companies are planning to develop a second new minicar, a super height wagon that is expected to be launched in early 2014.

In September 2011, both the companies entered agreements, under which Nissan will provide the Fuga luxury sedan to Mitsubishi, while Mitsubishi is to provide its MINICAB-MiEV commercial mini EV to Nissan in the Japanese market starting from 2012.
