International packaging and paper group Mondi has commenced the operations of its new €70m machine in tětí, Czech Republic, which produces white kraft paper.
With a capacity to produce around 155,000t of paper a year, the machine weighs around 6,000t and has been built by using about 550 truckloads of machinery parts and 2,000m3 of concrete.
The machine's top former is said to allow a higher ratio of soft wood pulp, while shoe calender enhances printability at high gloss, and delivers bulk, stiffness and caliper.
Mondi noted that paper grades that are produced on PM7 will hold a low breakage rate, optimized strength high tear resistance, impressive bulk, caliper and porosity properties.
The new PM7 meets high environmental standards, in addition to offering outstanding product features, claimed Mondi.
Mondi Packaging Paper CEO Clemens Willée said the machine's precision will guarantee smoother paper surfaces.
"PM7 is a very exciting project, offering the combination of exceptionally good printability and high strength properties," Willée added.
Due to the integration of the pulp to paper production process, the machine is said to have a positive environmental impact.
Mondi, which reported revenues of €6.5bn and a ROCE of 15.3%, has production facilities across 30 countries.
