Ford Motor Has Sold Beyond 2.2 Million Vehicles in The US in 2012

Automaker Ford Motor has sold over 2.2 million vehicles in the US in 2012, which the company claims it as the second straight year to surpass the 2 million mark.

According to Polk vehicle registration data through September 2012, Global Focus new registrations totaled 737,856 in the month Fiesta new vehicle registrations totaled 560,061.

The automaker said that it sold over 520,000 EcoBoost-powered vehicles since the engine's introduction in 2009.

The vehicles are already available in Europe in Fiesta and the company is planning to introduce new 1.0-liter, 3-cylinder engine in 2013 in the US.

Ford executive vice president of global marketing, sales and service and Lincoln Jim Farley said that Focus and Fiesta represent the best of the company's One Ford plan.

"In just three years, Ford has transformed our global small car lineup and started winning over customers worldwide with vehicles that are not only fun-to-drive but also fuel-efficient - largely thanks to our award-winning EcoBoost engines," Farley said.

Ford employs about 172,000 people and has 65 plants globally which have automotive brands including Ford and Lincoln.
