The Second Distillery Will Officially Open Its Doors on 10 January 2015

One Eight Distilling, only the second distillery to open in Washington since prohibition, will officially open its doors on 10 January 2015.

Customers will be invited for a behind-the-scenes glimpse at One Eight's 7,500 square production space, and given the opportunity to sample and shop for bottles of District Made Vodka (a rye-based vodka with a smooth, clean flavor) and Rock Creek White Whiskey (a rye-forward un-aged whiskey with hints of spice and pepper). One Eight's Ivy City Gin, named after the neighborhood where the distillery is located, will be released in subsequent weeks.

"We look forward to offering the city a first taste of our spirits," said One Eight Distilling CEO Alexander (Sandy) Wood. "We will also begin distributing directly to D.C. liquor stores and bars early in the New Year."

Members of the public and press are also invited to attend a 1/8 Preview Event on Thursday, January 8, 2015 from 7:00-10:00 p.m. Attendees will enjoy a sneak peek of the distillery, along with a Vodka and Whiskey cash cocktail bar produced in partnership with Union Kitchen.

"We couldn't ask for better partners than Union Kitchen to shake up the first batch of cocktails for our opening," said One Eight's Head Distiller Alex Laufer. "Collaborations like this are going to play a big role in everything that we do."

One Eight Distilling's stylish, expansive 2,000 square foot tasting room will be open for tastings and tours every Saturday from 1:00-4:00 p.m., beginning January 10, 2015, or by appointment. Along with spirits, the merchandise shop will include branded flasks, hats, t-shirts, shot glasses, and other apparel. In future months, the facilities will be utilized to host private functions and other public events.
