US engineering firm Aecom has won a contract to build the $1bn electric car manufacturing facility for Faraday Future (FF) in North Las Vegas, Nevada.
The 3 million ft2 and 900 acre development will create about 4,500 direct jobs over a 10-year period to the state.
The plant, which will be used to manufacture FF's electric vehicles, prioritizes sustainability to integrate with the North Las Vegas environment.
It will use FF's Variable Platform Architecture, which is an adaptable modular platform featuring battery strings that can be removed or added to change the wheelbase.
The plant will feature structural glass, a water feature and dark sky-compliant outdoor lighting fixtures, which will link the plant with the landscape. It will also feature extended life-cycle materials that need less maintenance.
The facility will also feature rooftop solar modules for power generation, which can bring in more power savings, along with the installation of energy efficient heating and cooling systems.
AECOM chairman and CEO Michael Burke said: “A revolutionary approach to transportation requires an unprecedented manufacturing facility, and AECOM is thrilled to be working with Faraday Future to help make its vision real in Nevada.
“Our involvement taps our extensive automotive industry experience and our integrated approach to delivering challenging projects quickly.’’
Faraday Future global manufacturing vice president Dag Reckhorn said: “Working in collaboration with AECOM, we were extremely impressed with how quickly they aligned with our company’s vision of manufacturing in North Las Vegas.
“We are proud to be working with AECOM as partners in this project, and their expertise will serve as an invaluable resource to FF as we bring our facility online in the future.”
