Volkswagen to Debut Electric Car with 665km Range at Geneva Motor Show

German automaker Volkswagen is set to showcase its new product, ID Vizzion, an electric car with a driving range of 665km, at Geneva International Motor Show to be held between 8 and 18 March 2018.

With self-driving capabilities, ID Vizzion is a long sedan with low-ground clearance and do not have a steering wheel or visible controls.

The vehicle is the fourth member of the Volkswagen ID family. It is powered by two electric motors, which give an output of 225kW, with a top speed of 180km/h.

The 111kWh lithium-ion batteries enable a driving range of up to 665km, when regenerative braking is factored in.

The two electric motors, based on its intelligent management, cooperate with maximum efficiency and drive all four wheels of the saloon.

The concept car features a ‘digital chauffeur’, which uses multiple driving assistance systems, allowing autonomous driving.

The virtual host of the vehicle has the capability of communicating with the passengers during the commuting time, as it can understand both voice and gesture controls. It can also learn and update about the passengers’ personal preferences.

The vehicle features a pair of rear-hinged doors, which are not supported on a pillar, allowing access to the cabin.

The company showcased the ID Buzz at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit last year and ID Crozz EV at the Los Angeles Auto Show. In September 2016, the company showcased the first ID electric concept car at the Paris Motors Show.

Initially, Volkswagen is set to launch ID range as an electric car in the compact class starting in 2020, followed by a new electric SUV, the ID Crozz, and the ID Buzz.

The brand plans to introduce over 20 electric vehicle models by 2025.

“The I.D. VIZZION clearly demonstrates the great potential of the all-electric architecture from Volkswagen. It is the technological backbone of future Volkswagen electric vehicles, and it enables long driving ranges and maximum space utilisation at optimal costs,” Volkswagen said in a statement.
