US-based energy drinks producer Hiball, which has temperature-activated ink being newly encased in cans, has entered into new sales and marketing partnership with incubator L.A. Libations

The package, developed by Hiball, features cold activation graphics using thermochromic ink by Chromatic Technologies, (CTI). When cans reach a temperature of 45F, the bubbles on the can graphics turn from white to blue to indicate that the beverage has reached its ideal drinking temperature.

Speaking about the product, Hiball co-founder Todd Berardi said it took a lot longer than they thought but people came to the idea "that they have a healthy energy drink, the one without calories, sugar or sweeteners of any kind".

Speaking to PN, Berardi said that the firm had built the technology and that the design was "unique".

The firm has recently switched from using glass to cans.

Berardi added: "We loved glass, but it wasn't easily merchandised next to cans or easy for people to understand what the product was at first glance."

The brand said that it has a long-term deal with L.A. Libations to harness the company's deep relationships with retail buyers to help boost volumes.
