The Subaru Crossover 7 concept has been unveiled at the Tokyo motor show, potentially previewing a future seven-seat model from the Japanese car maker.
The Subaru Crossover 7 is essentially a Liberty Exiga given the Outback-treatment, cladding the wagon’s lower body and wheel arch surrounds in black plastic, and tacking on a pair of silver roof racks. The concept also features a unique, enlarged front grille, tailgate spoiler and LED daytime running lights. Tan-coloured leather upholstery distinguishes the concept’s seven-seat cabin.
Powering the Crossover 7 concept is a version of Subaru’s 2.5-litre four-cylinder ‘boxer’ petrol engine, which teams with an automatic continuously variable transmission and the brand’s Symmetrical AWD system.
Earlier reports suggested the Crossover 7 would preview the replacement for the Tribeca. Although that car won’t arrive during the current Exiga’s lifecycle, it could suggest the next Tribeca will be to the Exiga what the Outback is to the Liberty, and the XV is to the Impreza; a toughened-up version of the car, with a raised ride height and slightly greater off-road ability.
