ST-Ericsson has had its modem/applications processor integrated chip NovaThor adopted by a smartphone called Coolpad launched by China Unicom and Yulong Telecommunications this week.
ST-E has been looking to diversify its client base following the collapse of its best customer,Nokia.
ST-E has also found a slot in the Samsung Galaxy Beam.
ST-E reckons it has a potential game-changer in FD-SOI which will be used for the NovaThor but it is unclear when a chip using the technology will be made.
The foundry which ST-E will use for FD-SOI is IBM which raises the possibility of capacity issues.
It is also unclear where ST-E will be getting an unconstrained source of supply for 28nm bulk CMOS.
