Baldi Candy, doing business as Arway Confections, has reached a definitive agreement to purchase the business and real estate of Long Grove Confectionery of Buffalo Grove, Illinois.

Arway Confections, a 63-year-old family owned business located in Chicago, plans to retain the Long Grove Confectionery (LGC) name and employees, including David Mangel, LGC's vice president, who will play a key role in sales and product development, and Dwayne Hallan, director of operations.

Founded by John and Heidi Mangel in 1974, Long Grove Confectionery manufactures a line of quality, gourmet confections. The company offers more than 300 products including signature Myrtles, chocolate peanut butter cups, butter creams, caramels, meltaways and nonpareils.

Long Grove's products are available throughout the US in department stores, gift shops, specialty stores, and mail-order catalogs. The company also operates a retail store in Long Grove and factory store in Buffalo Grove.

The combined business will utilize both the existing 75,000ft2 Arway manufacturing facility located at N Kimball Ave. in Chicago as well as the newly acquired 85,000ft2 LGC facility located in Buffalo Grove. LCG's one retail store and one factory store will also remain open.

Craig Leva, Arway's president and owner who has been with the company since 1991, will continue as president of Arway following completion of the transaction with LGC.

Craig Leva said that there are the tremendous opportunities and the natural synergies by combining the operations of these two Chicago-area companies.
