Henry’s Farm of Virginia has recalled all packages of soybean sprouts since they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) said.
The company has recalled 1 lb packages of Natto Soybean Sprouts, 2 lb packages of Bean Sprouts and around 10 lb black plastic bags of Soybean Sprouts.
The Bean Sprouts packages are labelled as distributed by Rhee Bros., while the other two products are labelled as produced by Henry's Farm. None of these packages were coded.
Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections to individuals with weakened immune systems, while others may suffer short-term symptoms. It can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
The company distributed these products in Asian specialty grocery stores in Virginia and Maryland.
Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Food Safety & Security Program identified the contamination after sampling and later the analysis by the Virginia Division of Consolidated Laboratory Services confirmed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes.
However, no illnesses associated with the consumption of these products have been reported yet.
