Qualcomm Introduced Lte Modems Designed for Cars to Stay Connected to Cloud-Based Services

Wireless technology maker Qualcomm introduced LTE modems designed to allow cars to stay connected to cloud-based services through the web.

The company added Snapdragon X12 LTE modem and Snapdragon X5 LTE modem to Snapdragon Automotive Solutions, which is expected to be deployed across tiers of the automotive industry.

Qualcomm's new modems can be embedded in cars and can be connected to the infotainment system.

It is also capable of provide download speeds of up to 450 Mbps and can be connected to the owner's mobile devices to avail different types of Internet services.

Snapdragon X12 and X5 LTE modems also facilitates support to LTE, DC-HSPA, EVDO, CDMA 1x, GSM and TD-SCDMA and offers integrated support for VoLTE, which is a new regulatory safety features like EU eCall.

Cars are becoming the next big platform of competition amongst tech giant and the companies are trying to create a market where car drivers will be online while on the road, reported Reuters.

Qualcomm Technologies SVP Kanwalinder Singh said: "With smartphone connectivity setting the pace for advanced features, consumers expect the same experience from all other connected devices, including their car.

"Qualcomm Technologies already supports first-generation LTE connected cars with major automakers. We are now pressing ahead with the vision of LTE for all automakers, cars, geographies and models with the leading performance of the X12 and the leading value of the X5."
