US-based automobile manufacturer Ford Motor is planning to recall about 370,000 vehicles across North America over the loss of steering control issues.

The recall affects Crown Victoria, Mercury Grand Marquis and Lincoln Town Car vehicles with model years from 2005 through 2011, which includes about 355,000 vehicles in the US and about 15,000 vehicles in Canada.

Lower intermediate steering shaft in the vehicles is expected to corrode, resulting in potentially loss of steering control.

The recall is expected to be made for some particular states, where road salt is used and corrosion is most likely to occur.

States targeted by the recall include Michigan, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, Wisconsin and West Virginia.

Ford spokeswoman said in an email, "Customers located in other states who routinely operate their vehicles in one of these areas, or customers who have concerns regarding their steering, will also be able to have their vehicles inspected and repaired if necessary."

According to the company, there are no accidents or injuries related to the recall issue.

Under the recall, the dealers are expected to inspect the vehicles and replace the lower intermediate steering shaft if necessary as well as secure a lower steering column bearing and replace the upper intermediate steering shaft.
