Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) and Guangzhou Automobile (GAC) have announced a preliminary agreement to strengthen the GAC Fiat joint venture, which includes production of a Chrysler brand vehicle in China.
According to the agreement FCA and GAC are planning to bring a localized Chrysler product to China to expand passenger car brand lineup in China.
GAC Fiat is also expected to expand sport (SUV) offering with Jeep brand and is expected to include new Jeep models by the end of 2016.
The preliminary agreement includes creation of a joint commercial operation, marketing, product planning and after sales for Jeep, Fiat and Chrysler brands. This operation will also locally produce and imported products.
Fiat Chrysler general manager John Kett said: "China is a market of strategic importance to FCA in the next five years.
"Collectively the import brands of Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge, in addition to the localized brands of Fiat, have the group ranked as the fastest growing brands in China."
