Ford has inaugurated its $1bn integrated manufacturing facility along with an engine plant in Sanand, Gujarat which will double the company’s manufacturing capacity in India.
The facility, which is spread across 460 acres, will initially manufacture the company's sub-four-metre compact sedan Ford Figo Aspire.
The vehicle manufacturing plant alone will have production capacity of 240,000 units per year and initially the engine plant will have an annual capacity of 270,000 engines per year.
Ford also highlighted that with the new facility the company will generate more than 7500 jobs across all tier.
According to Ford, the Sanand facility is equipped with modern equipment and advanced technology and will include stamping, body, paint and assembly operations for vehicle manufacturing, and for engine manufacturing it will include machining and assembly operations.
Ford India president Nigel Harris said, "With some of the world's best technologies, Ford is stronger than ever to meet the needs of Indian customers and provide them what they need and aspire for."
