Bi-Fuel Chevrolet Impala Tested Under Rigorous Conditions

General Motor has placed a large piece of cast aluminum in the tank of 2015 Bi-fuel Chevrolet Impala to protect it from protect it from puncturing and making the vehicle safer.

The tank holds compressed natural gas (CNG) that can power the 2015 Bi-Fuel Chevrolet Impala.

It was tested under rigorous conditions to make sure that the tank did not catch fire under extreme circumstances.

The company exposed the tanks to an 800-degree Fahrenheit fire just four inches below the tank and it lit fire to the trunk, underbody, and back seat to test whether it can withstand extreme conditions.

The tank was shot at, with a 7.62 millimeter armor piercing bullet to test its service pressure which the tank withstood.

Impala chief engineer Nichole Kraatz said "We designed this system for those 'what if' situations.

"The customer shouldn't even know it's there. They shouldn't even think about it. CNG should just be another fuel they use to power their vehicle."
