Japanese Firm Mizkan Foods Reveals a Plan to Cut 66 Jobs in Bury St Edmunds

Japanese firm Mizkan foods has revealed a plan to cut 66 jobs in Bury St Edmunds, one of its three food plants in the UK.

Around 350 people are employed at the Bury plant, which produces Branston Pickle, Sarson's Vinegar and Haywards Pickles.

In October 2011, Mizkan acquired the present plant from Premier Foods in a £92.5m deal.

A company official said that a total of 87 jobs are at risk across its three plants in the UK such as Middleton in Greater Manchester, Chiswick Park in London and Bury St Edmunds, East Anglian Daily Times reported.

A statement from Miskan read: "Mizkan Euro is currently undergoing a business restructure. Challenging environmental conditions within the UK food market have meant that a streamlining of processes, and implementing cost reductions, at Mizkan sites has become essential.

"The restructure will not affect the organisation's manufacture or distribution of any of its products, including all products within the Branston, Sarson's, Haywards ranges."

However, Mizkan noted that there will not be any job losses before Christmas.
