Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd. revealed that a R&D center has been set up in Japan, engaged in research and development of display panels and touch screens.
As one step taken for its diversification strategy, Hon Hai purchased a 38% stake in a TV panel plant under Sharp.
Hon Hai stated that the new technology developed by the Japanese R&D center will be used for personal consumer, commercial and medical products, without revealing specific investment values.
Hon Hai Spokesperson Laura Liu pointed out that the Japanese R&D center is close to the acquired TV panel plant, which is considered as core business of the company.
The Japanese R&D center is the third for Hon Hai in Asia. Other two are situated in Mainland China and Taiwan.
