Aleris Is Closing Its Aluminum Recycling Facility in Pleasants County Next Year

The Associated Press reported that Aleris is closing its aluminum recycling facility in Pleasants County next year.

Aleris spokesman Mr Jason Saragian tells the Parkersburg News and Sentinel that the facility in Bens Run wasn't meeting the company's business goals.

It's scheduled to close March 1, 2013. Mr Saragian said that the shutdown will affect 30 to 40 workers.

Opened in 1989, the facility produces deoxidizers used in the steel industry to help remove impurities during the steel making process. The facility also produces aluminum ingot in multiple alloys and manufactures recycled secondary ingot and sows.

Mr Saragian said that the facility's closure won't affect the company's recycling facility in Friendly.

Aleris also has a rolled products facility in Buckhannon.
