Japanese food maker Maruha Nichiro Holdings is recalling 6.3 million packs of frozen foods including croquettes and pizza after pesticide was detected in some of the products.
The affected products were manufactured by the company's subsidiary Aqlifoods at its facility in Gunma Prefecture.
In the wake of reports from customers, Maruha Nichiro examined the products and identified malathion, an insecticide, which it claimed is not usually used in the factory.
According to Aqlifoods, there are no reports of serious illnesses; however, one child did vomit as a result of the odor.
Maruha Nichiro stated that it will suspend operation at the Gunma factory and stop shipments from it until the cause of the problem is identified.
A list of products being withdrawn has been posted by the Consumer Affairs Agency, to alert consumers who may have bought them.
