German automaker MAN Truck & Bus has secured a contract to supply ten hybrid city buses Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) in Spain.
The new deal is an addition to the older contract made by the company and the transport authorities under which, the manufacturer will supply its Lion's City Hybrids to the customer by the end of 2013.
Following the delivery, Barcelona will have 21 MAN hybrid buses and become the city with the largest fleet of these vehicles.
The 12m long solo buses are equipped with two electric engines that generate an output of 75kW each and a torque of 3000Nm, while offering quiet and emission-free acceleration.
Along with the electric powertrain, the vehicles are also equipped with MAN D08 7L diesel motor that delivers output of 250hp and is claimed to meet Enhanced Environmentally Friendly Vehicle (EEV) emission standards.
The electric powertrain is fueled by the two sources including ultra-capacitors on the roof that save the kinetic energy recuperated during braking and release it again during acceleration.
