Valley Pride to Acquire Ice Cream Plant for an Undisclosed Amount

Valley Pride, a dairy cooperative based in Virginia, US, is set to acquire an ice cream plant in Hagerstown, Maryland, for an undisclosed amount.

The Hagerstown facility was owned by British-Dutch conglomerate Unilever. It produced Good Humor bars for before 30 years and was closed in 2012, leading to a loss of 391 jobs. Unilever had closed the facility in order to shift the production at the plant to Tennessee, Missouri and Nevada.

The cooperative plans to produce milk and ice cream at the Hagerstown facility, which will have 35 full-time workers.

Valley Pride was quoted by the Associated Press as saying that the products produced at the facility will be sold under the Shenandoah Family Farms brands.
