American automaker Chrysler Group has issued a voluntary recall on 7,935 Ram ProMaster vehicles of certain model year 2014 in the US due to problem with the vehicle speed control.
According to the company, the accelerator pedal of affected vehicles, if pushed downward at a certain angle, will get stuck in the wide open throttle position due to interference with the accelerator pedal stopper.
This will result in uncontrolled acceleration, increasing the risk of a crash. These vehicles were manufactured from 1 July 2013, through 10 December 2013 and are equipped with a brake override system.
If a pedal is trapped, pushing on the brake pedal will brake the vehicle and enable the driver to slow and stop and turn off the vehicle.
Dealers of the company will replace the accelerator pedal stopper with a larger one, free of charge. Chrysler will notify owners and dealers of the affected vehicles. The recall is expected to begin in March 2014.
