BUQUEBUS and CTS Auto in collaboration with the Chinese automaker, Build Your Dreams (BYD) has unveiled the first rapid transit electric bus in Uruguay, South America.
The BYD Electric Bus is equipped with two units of the in- wheel electric motors that offer a cruising speed over 88km/h powered by the Iron-Phosphate Battery.
According to the company, the powertrain offers a range of over 250km and comes with the BYD battery technology that can be fully charge in about 5hours.
The fully electric 12m rapid transit bus is claimed to have lowest floor compared to the other busses with a single step to enter the bus.
The new buses will be used to offer services as the tourist bus routes in the city of Colonia and are expected to join the BUQUEBUS as urban transport buses to offer long-distance transport.
By 2015, the region expects to have over 500 BYD electric buses running on the streets and roads of Uruguay and reducing the environmental impact.
