India based flexible packaging materials provider Uflex has developed a melamine free acrylic coated bi-axially oriented polyethylene terephthalate (BOPET) film to meet the increasing demand for the melamine free packaging from western food and beverages brands.
Developed at its film manufacturing plant in Poland, the clear transparent film is used in conversion, printing, hot fill, retort, pasteurization and sterilization among other applications.
Uflex technical and new product development (films) president Pramod Sirsamkar said: “Looking into the growing consciousness towards health, this Film has been particularly developed amid increasing demand from our customers globally.”
The company has carried out trials of the film which showed nil melamine content, good printability and enhanced lamination bond.
The testing also exhibited the film’s good transparency and clarity as well as improved machinability and handling properties, the company noted.
Uflex chairman and Managing Director Ashok Chaturvedi said: “This film exhibits excellent transparency, gloss and printability making it an absolute delight for the converters.”
Specially developed for FFS machines, the film features enhanced mechanical, surface and thermal properties and also ensures good processability.
Uflex said in a statement: The films Flexpet and Flexmetprotect (Grade F-AMF) are manufactured with monomers/starting substances listed in commission regulation (EU) 10/2011 relating to plastic materials and articles intended to come in contact with foodstuffs.”
The film can be coated with primer at one side for emphatic adhesion with inks and adhesives while the other side can be corona treated for value addition.
