Gaopo County is located in a paramos mountainous area. The highest point is 1712.1m above the sea level. The place gets its name probably because the northern part is mainly high mountains and mesas with surface relief going from north down to south. The area boasts of typical karst topography. Caverns of various sizes can be seen everywhere. It is said that the cave burial custom of Miao people in Gaopo County can be dated back to more than 600 years ago.
As Miao people said, there are "a lot of" cave burial sites in Gaopo. Mr. Yang Tingshuo, a Guizhou scholar, conducted a survey in 1981 and found altogether eight cave burial sites in Gaopo. More researchers believe, however, the number of cave burial sites is far more than this.
Jiading cave burial site is located half-way up the Limu mountain of Jiading village. The cave is U-shaped and consists of one upper entrance and one lower entrance.
