Over 2000 wines from all over the world are recognised each year at the International Wine Awards in Zurich. One of the accolades awarded is the Prix Vetropack, and this year's lucky winners are Marylène and Louis-Charles Bovard-Chervet,a young wine-making couple from Vully in the canton of Fribourg.
The grapes for the award-winning Château de Praz,Vully,2011,are grown on the estate of the same name, which measures a mere 12 hectares in size. The Vully cultivation area covers around 150 hectares in total,46 of which are in the canton of Vaud and the rest are on Fribourg territory.
The wine-making couple Marylène and Louis-Charles Bovard-Chervet met while they were studying oenology at the University of Applied Sciences Changins. They both come from wine-producing families and grew up around vines and wine. The young couple took over Marylène's parents'estate on 1 April 2011,and there is a clear division of labour between the hard-working pair:he looks after wine-growing and business management, while she is in charge of wine-making,trying to strike the ideal balance for her product by continuing the traditions of Château de Praz whilst using the latest pressing methods to give the wines a personal, modern touch.
Each year, the Prix Vetropack is awarded to the best wine from a Swiss main variety as chosen by the jury of the International Wine Awards in Zurich. The variety in question is announced in advance and Chasselas was selected for this year.Vetropack presents the winner with a specially customised mould for producing new, personalised wine bottles.
The official awards ceremony took place on 5 September at Vetropack's premises in Bülach.
