Located several kilometers north of the Forbidden City and just east of Houhai Lake is Nanluoguxiang (NLGX), an 800-meter long North-South alleyway filled with cafes, bars, and shops all designed in classical Chinese 'hutong' style.Nanluoguxiang has a history of over 800 years. Once a flourishing commercial street during the Yuan Dynasty (1206-1368), the NLGX area became a popular residential area for government officials and elites during the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) Dynasties.

4. Maliandao Tea Street

Located in southwestern Xuanwu District, Maliandao Tea Street is conveniently located near Beijing West Railway Station.The 1, 500 m-long-strip has become the biggest tea market in Beijing and the largest tea distribution center in northern China. 5. Wangfujing Commercial Street

Wangfujing Street is the most famous commercial area in Beijing. The history of Wangfujing Street can be traced back to the 13th century, the early Yuan Dynasty.It is located to the east of Tiananmen Square and stretches from the Chinese Art Gallery to Dongchan'an Avenue.

6. Wangfujing Snack Street

Location: south of Wangfujing Haoyou World Shopping Center

Wangfujing Snack Street has a famous long standing reputation. There are several hundred shops and stalls in the street, where the traditional architecture features of the ancient capital blend harmoniously with modern city culture and which is also the gathering place of famous snacks from Beijing and various other places in China.
