Mupamipa is the widest spread mythological story about the creation of the world in the style of an epic among the Lahu nationality in China. It is part of the Lahu oral literature popular in Lahu Autonomous County of Yunnan Province. The word "mupamipa" means "the creation of the world" in the Lahu language.
The epic, composed of 17 chapters in 2,300 lines, is about the life in the initial stages of the creation of the sky, the earth, the sun, the moon, all things and human beings. It is a masterwork of the age-old oral literature of the Lahu people.
Here's a brief summary of the content in the epic: in remote antiquity, the universe was in a complete mess, with no limit between the sky and the earth. Esha, a divinity, successively created the sky, the earth, everything in the world and two human beings named "Zhadi" and "Nadi". The two humans were brothers and sisters. They lived on the desolated land by gathering and hunting. Later, they get married and their children procreated the Lahu, Wa, Hani, Dai, Bulang, Yi, Han nationalities etc. and the Lahu people gradually developed agricultural cultivation from the primitive gathering and hunting.
