More and more people to invest in their bathroom

When renovating a bathroom, many homeowners take the 'splash and dash' approach: a quick coat of white paint, a few new tiles, then move out to somewhere bigger and better.

However, with the game of 'climb the property ladder' less and less available to aspirational homeowners, more people are investing in their bathrooms both as a luxurious room to enjoy while they occupy a home, as well as a central feature when they decide to sell.

That's according to Mereway Bathrooms spokesperson Tim Wood, who, at the helm of one of Britain's largest independent bathroom furniture manufacturers, knows a thing or two about the UK's wet rooms. And the trend to spend more is, as Tim says, growing.

"People are still spending money on bathrooms," the expert said, "although the economic situation has meant that people are buying smarter. The buying decision is only being made after very thorough research and review of available alternatives."

A lot of that means agonising over which particular sink is the most exquisite, and which taps are more ornate: but it also means buying smart. Reliable extractor fans are now a must for homeowners bedding in for a long stay in their home, as they keep damp at bay. And saving money by investing in the right lighting is also a consideration.

Bathroom ceiling spotlights are just one example. Flush against the ceiling, they save on space while providing keen illumination - and, with any one of our range of LED bathroom lights, come with energy-saving bulbs that use less power and positively impact on your fuel bills through extended use.

"We are seeing an increased spend, if anything," said Tim. "We believe it is due to a considered purchase of a high quality bathroom that adds value to the home, rather than a quick bathroom makeover with a view to selling the house.

"Much has been made of the 'improve not move' trend, and spend on a stylish, well thought out bathroom is indicative of people investing in a room that they intend to enjoy now and in the future, rather than leave behind in due course."
